After Dark Volume 4Firstly, please excuse me for not updating Night Fever last week.  It has been a challenging week for me.  In the space of only a few days I managed to develop not only a bad cold, but a nasty stomach bug too.  I was suffering from the Bangkok boogie, which is the Thai equivalent of Delhi belly.  Unfortunately, I was off sick when I was due to write last week’s edition of Night Fever.  On top of that I was generally feeling low and having a double bad day in the office.  But, I am back now, so never fear the Dave The Rave is here! NANA PLAZA - NEON JUNGLE NEWS

After Dark AsiaThe most popular go-go bars in the neon jungle of Nana Plaza have recently had a significant surge in trade.  For the past few weeks, MANY bar owners’ right across Thailand have been moaning and groaning about the lack of customers.  Some people think it is getting increasingly worse each year, but there are bars that are holding their own remarkably well.  Rainbow 1 Go-Go Bar, Rainbow 4 Go-Go Bar and Angelwitch Go-Go Bar continue to attract large amounts of customers, maintaining a full house at peak trading times.  Rainbow 1 Go-Go Bar started this month with a staggering 160 dancing dolly birds (go-go girls).  There are some go-go bar owners who have several go-go bars and yet, they still cannot match tiny little Rainbow 1 Go-Go Bar for numbers.  Consistently, the mighty Rainbow 4 Go-Go Bar boasts even more dancing dolly birds with a total that fluctuates between 200 and 250 go-go bargirls.  (more…)

FROM THE FREEZER TO THE FURNACE

After Dark Asia MagazineI have recently returned from the freezer to the furnace, or in other words from an icy “summer” in England to the intense heat of Bangkok.  When I landed at Heathrow Airport in London, I thought I had arrived during peak winter. I kid you not it was bloody freezing!  Then two weeks later, I jetted back into Bangkok on a scorching hot afternoon.  What a difference in climate.  As luck would have it just as Dave The Rave lands in London, all hell breaks loose.  Freak storms, severe floods, terrorist attacks and near winter conditions.  I found myself asking whether it really was July, because I appeared to be in a time warp.  Bloody scary I can tell you!  Oh well, I survived my England excursion and I am back where I belong.  I was OK once I had a look at After Dark Asia magazine.  I want you to know that it was just for preparation purposes before the go-go guru returned to the neon jungle of Nana Plaza.  Home sweet home!

Bulmers English Cider

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Bullmer's English CiderBulmers Original English Cider is most certainly making an impact right across regions of Thailand.  Its crisp, refreshing taste is so soothing during those humid, tropical nights. Whether you are seeking tranquility on a remote beach, or you are amid the pulsating beat of Thailand’s world famous nightlife - Bulmers is an excellent choice.  Some people talk about Bulmers being an expensive drink. What they do not realize is that it is a MASSIVE drink. This popular English Cider is served over ice from large 568ml bottles.  Bulmers also has a reasonable alcohol volume of 4.5%.  A bottle of Bulmers Original towers above your standard beer bottle.  A small bottle of Heineken or Singha (usually served in farang bars) is no comparison in terms of liquid volume. Bulmers Original English Cider is a most welcomed addition to Thailand’s range of beverages.

Oh, how those memories of English summertime come back like a long lost friend.  Those lazy hazy English summers with village folks tucking into Ploughman’s lunches amid a backdrop of thatch roof cottages. This scenery mixes with the trundling sounds of tractors in the golden corn fields of rural England.  Stunning Cambridge University dolly birds drinking Bulmers Original Cider along the riverbanks of Cambridgeshire.  The summer is the best time to be in merry little England for sure.  Even among the youth in England, you can see that Bulmers Original Cider is a trendy drink.

Daves Raves - If you see a lovely dolly bird that you fancy, then get her on the Bulmers… I hear you utter but why do that?

“It was the cider inside her, that got me inside her!”

HOT IN THE CITY

Shakerz Coyote Club - Bangkok - ThailandAs if the City Of Angels was not hot enough what with a steamy nightlife and hot babes in abundance, the temperature is rising as we see the hot season arrive. Surprisingly it is still relatively cool at night which is a blessing in disguise, because the furnace heat of Bangkok is unrivalled by almost any other capital city in this part of the world. Forgive me for thinking that Bangkok is located close to the equator, but the intense heat is like an open-air oven. Doctors are constantly saying that Westerners simply do not drink enough water in tropical climates, but especially during the hot season. Many guys are here to enjoy the nightlife and what naturally comes with this territory is alcohol consumption. But, we must remember how much drinking alcohol dehydrates our bodies and this is never more evident than in hot climates of course. Try to remember to drink as much narm yen (cool water) as possible whether it is throughout the daytime, or intermittently during a night out. From now until approximately the end of May the sky high temperatures will remain unrelenting. Don’t say that I didn’t warn you! (more…)

ROLLERCOASTER RIDE

Asian Babe - ThailandHold tight riders! The rollercoaster ride has returned to the Bangkok bars. Apart from a few exceptions it has been an exceptionally quiet month so far in the nightspots of Bangkok. Generally the volume of visitors to the bars has taken a considerable drop in numbers. For some of the less fortunate bars the steep drop in trade is like the big dipper. Whoosh! (more…)

MBK Shopping Centre BangkokLong Live The King!

His Majesty King Bhumibol celebrated his monumental birthday on December 5 when His Majesty became 79 years old. In many ways His Majesty King Bhumibol (King Rama 9 of the Chakri Dynasty) is revered as a god by devout Thai Buddhists. Nobody in their right mind would ever doubt or question His Majesty King Bhumibol’s relentless quest of giving heart and soul to his country. Every road and soi was lined with people paying their respects to a truly legendary King of Thailand. It was a remarkable sight. A sea of saffron swept across the city of angels, as many people wore their Royal Coronation polo shirts. May His Majesty reign for many years to come. Long live the King!

Cheers For The Beers

After Dark Asia Volume 3We continue to witness a surge of suds as even more new beers flow in fast. For once, I find myself praising the Crown Group who own around a dozen bars in Nana Plaza. Promotional banners have been put up outside beer bars such as Road House and Pharaohs (located on floor 1 as you enter Nana Plaza). Two popular British brews have now arrived in Nana Plaza, with Newcastle Brown Ale and John Smith’s Bitter currently available in Road House and Pharaohs. Please note though, that with these being imported beers you will have to be prepared to pay a bit more. Here, the asking price is either 120 baht, or 140 baht depending on the brand of imported beer. Like I have mentioned before, imported beers are not cheap to buy in, so this is not a bad price considering. We need a wider range of beers in Thailand and this is promising news.

REMINDER - Free samples of John Smith’s Extra Smooth Bitter will be available at Coyotees on Sunday, November 26, 2006.
