THAILAND NIGHTLIFE NEWSFLASH

Nana Plaza was suffering early closing due to police politics, but there is good news. Nana Plaza is open until at least 2:00am every night. Hooray!

NIGHTSEEING IN NANA - PART 2

Hi Guys, this week I continue talking about one of my favourite pubs in Bangkok…

Finnegan’s Pub is located opposite Rajah Hotel car park, just down past The Tavern in Soi Nana. This popular oasis is both Irish and Thai ran. Therefore, visitors can enjoy the best of both worlds, with a unique mixture of “Thairish” hospitality. The slightly unusual thing for an Irish Pub is that Finnegan’s is immaculately clean and tidy. This is where Thai presentation skills come into play. Finnegan’s has two levels and if you don’t fancy eating among the drinkers, there is a dining area upstairs. The girls are farang friendly, and the service is very efficient by Thai standards. In some establishments, guys have been known to grow beards whilst waiting for their order! This is not the case in Finnegan’s, because Gerry has his eye on the ball… As luck would have it, a gorgeous beer promo girl served me a pint of John Smith’s Bitter. With a John Smith’s in one hand and a dolly bird in the other, it was literally a bittersweet experience! (more…)

AFTER DARK ASIA – VOLUME 7

The next edition of the go-go girly magazine After Dark Asia will be on sale soon. The initial launch date was set for August 8th. However, the publisher’s estimation was a little premature. Thailand’s top glossy girly magazine will be on the shelves around the middle of this month. One of the partners is an image artist and the other is more of a piss artist! (I just couldn’t resist having a joke about good ole Bob). The photographer formerly worked for Penthouse Magazine, which explains the superb quality of the photos. This cover shot is one of the best I’ve seen. It is an excellent photo and the dolly birds are sensationally sensual. Copies are available from newsstands in Bangkok, but After Dark Asia is much more widely available across Pattaya. Check it out! (more…)

THE COOL SEASON IS HERE… ER, WELL I THINK IT IS?

Angelwitch Go-Go Bar - Nana Plaza - BangkokWhenever you read through any general guide to Thailand, you will learn that November is the start of the cool season. This is the time of year (supposedly speaking), when Thailand sees the least rainfall and less humidity.  Also, the average temperature is generally lower as well.

After Dark Asia MagazineConsidering that September can be a notorious month in the monsoon season, we seem to be getting off quite lightly.  This especially applies to the City of Angels, where thunder, lightning and floods can and do wreak havoc.  The rainfall has been intermittent, which keeps us guessing.  But, at least it is much better than those daily downpours that South East Asia is infamous for.  So far so good, we should count our blessings.  Although it is not raining on a daily basis, we should be prepared.  If it looks cloudy you will probably want to take your umbrella with you.  Those compact, extendable umbrellas can be purchased quite cheap all over Bangkok.  If it looks like rain you can always dive into a shop and by one.  The 7 ELEVEN shops usually stock them.

Shakerz Coyote Club

The positive news for Night Fever fans is the recent reinstatement of the later bar closing times, which has given Thailand’s nightlife a much needed boost. But, what needs to be restored is the Land Of Sanuk’s reputation, which has been affected by the introduction of draconian laws and complicated regulations. To some degree the damage has been done, but hopefully given time more Westerners will return to Thailand. This needs to happen by the start of high season, which commences around November. As a friend said to me, “The words Military Junta don’t go down well in the West.” For various reasons Thailand is suffering a drought of farangs, which leaves some places deserted. Those of us that either live in Thailand or visit frequently, know what the current situation is but others far away still question how safe it is. Foreign confidence must be restored but this will not happen of course until a civilian government is appointed. (more…)

WELCOME TO MY WEBLOG WORLD

Living Dolls Showcase PattayaHold tight riders here we go! Welcome to my modified WordPress weblog. It is different so take a bit of time to get used to the feel of it. Don’t be afraid to push a few buttons. Go on, you know you want to and they won’t self-destruct!

DAVE THE RAVE FAN CLUB

To me it is astonishing to think that what started out as a bit of fun among my friends has expanded into a popular website. As an Internet newcomer I had not even sent an email until I moved to Bangkok in 1998. I originate from a rural part of the East Midlands in England. Throughout the 1990s and even (in some cases) to present day few people possessed a personal computer in the rural areas. What started out with a few emails to a group of friends has grown into this website that I now update myself. Remarkable! (more…)

NIGHT FEVER NEWSFLASH

It’s official, the party is on! In a remarkable turnaround the powers that be in Bangkok have lifted the early closing restrictions. Hooray! Cheers of joy and sheer relief echo throughout Thailand. Initially this will not make a big difference to some nightlife entertainment areas in Thailand, but for the bars that were suffering 1:00am closing this is of paramount importance. Just recently Thailand’s nightlife areas have suffered such a drought of customers that it will take time for the word to spread, and for consumer confidence to return. That aside, this means that Night Fever fans can once again enjoy themselves and (hopefully) party until their hearts content. (more…)

After Dark Asia Volume 2HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Christmas Eve was quite tame this year in Bangkok, due partly to the earlier closing times for the farang nightlife areas in the capital. However, Khun Oh the co-owner of Play Skool, which is located next to Rainbow 1 on floor one of Nana Plaza did hire a Thai band. The beer bar outside Play Skool kept the party going until the early hours, but it was mostly supported by Thais. I did attend and managed to buy Khun Oh a drink for generously providing some entertainment. The authorities did not allow any of the go-go bars to open late, but it did not appear that much of a loss as Christmas Eve in Bangkok was not celebrated by the massive crowds of previous years. Christmas Day in some places looked a far cry from a Merry Christmas celebration, but the locals in Jools Bar down opposite Raja Hotel car park on Soi 4 were (almost) in fine tune as they sung a few Christmas songs.

Cheers For The Beers

After Dark Asia Volume 3We continue to witness a surge of suds as even more new beers flow in fast. For once, I find myself praising the Crown Group who own around a dozen bars in Nana Plaza. Promotional banners have been put up outside beer bars such as Road House and Pharaohs (located on floor 1 as you enter Nana Plaza). Two popular British brews have now arrived in Nana Plaza, with Newcastle Brown Ale and John Smith’s Bitter currently available in Road House and Pharaohs. Please note though, that with these being imported beers you will have to be prepared to pay a bit more. Here, the asking price is either 120 baht, or 140 baht depending on the brand of imported beer. Like I have mentioned before, imported beers are not cheap to buy in, so this is not a bad price considering. We need a wider range of beers in Thailand and this is promising news.

REMINDER - Free samples of John Smith’s Extra Smooth Bitter will be available at Coyotees on Sunday, November 26, 2006.
