9 Years! Butterflies Anniversary Gets Amazing with Saturday Party at Nana Plaza

The Butterflies Anniversary party is here again Saturday, offering free food and gifts for guests but no Babe of the Year.

The Nana Plaza go-go bar will have about 100 ladies twirling on its two big stages and in the Jacuzzi, but it’s going to be glam over suds. The Butterflies Babes will be decked out in the same glorious cobalt blue outfits with gold accessories that their Billboard Bangkok sisters were at Billboard’s 10th Anniversary celebration in September.

The party begins at 8 p.m., with commemorative giveaways for early arrivals, including a free branded drink glass for the first 200 guests.

A Butterflies Anniversary Format Refined Over the Years

The Butterflies Anniversary party has become a fixture in Nana Plaza, drawing thousands of people every November since Butterflies’ opening in 2016.

The gogo, created from the former Jail Birdz space, quickly became one of Nana’s most-visited bars thanks to its open stage design, large rotation and hot tub.

Previous anniversaries built on that visibility with choreographed shows, neon-lit staging and, in several years, the Butterflies Babe of the Year pageant.

Last year’s eighth-anniversary party featured a packed bar, costumed dancers and a full competition segment that ran deep into the night for more than 50,000 baht in prize money.

This year’s Butterflies anniversary edition drops the competition element entirely. Billboard made the same change for its 10th anniversary, opting for a more fluid format without the scoring rounds or

Butterflies is following that approach and building the evening around continuous performances instead of structured heats. Anyone who attended previous pageants won’t miss the annual assault on their eardrums.

Judging in Babe of the Year pageants was done by screaming. The lady with the loudest screams from the audience won. But the decibel meter used to judge often showed sound above 120db.

Even without a competition, management expects the same pacing as recent major events. The bar will run rotations through the late evening, with peak crowd levels projected between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Bottle service and VIP bookings for the Butterflies anniversary opened earlier this month and were already partly reserved by mid-week, a sign of strong interest following last year’s capacity night.

Growth of a Nana Plaza Mainstay

Butterflies has marked its anniversaries by charting its own growth. When the bar debuted, it operated with a smaller roster and fewer fans.

Over time, the club expanded its lineup, raised its lighting grid and adjusted the main stage to accommodate larger groups.

By its seventh anniversary, the roster had reached more than 70 dancers, and the bar had fully established itself as one of Nana Plaza’s most reliable crowd-pullers.

The eighth anniversary in 2024 reinforced that position. The “Babe of the Year” contest returned that year with an extended field and significant prize money, creating one of the longest and busiest nights in the venue’s history.

The event shared several elements with prior Butterflies anniversary parties — a strong turnout, high spending rounds and extended rotations — but also underscored the logistical challenges of running a stage contest in a venue that already fills early.

What to Expect on Saturday Night

On Saturday, Butterflies will present its largest roster of the year, although the Butterflies Babes have never been known for their punctuality, so don’t expect all three stages to fill until after 9:30.

Management expects the tables to fill quickly, for the Butterflies anniversary however, noting that the combination of a Saturday date and an anniversary tag tends to push the bar to capacity earlier than a typical weekend.

The space will be dressed in blue and gold across the signage, lighting and stage cues, an aesthetic match to Billboard’s recent milestone event.

Staff will handle early-evening giveaways at the door until the 200-guest threshold is reached. After that, the bar will shift into its regular flow, with stage groups moving through routines as the crowd builds.

There also will be free pizza and sides for everyone.

Butterflies’ anniversary parties have historically produced strong spending rounds, and management expects the same pattern this year. So get there early!
