Pattaya Jisoo Closed, Victim of Poor Branding, Bad Go-Go Marketing, Worse Soi 15 Location

Pattaya’s Jisoo closed this month, going dark on Walking Street Soi 15 after an seven-month run that opened with buzz, leaned hard on value and never fully escaped the gravity of its location.

Jisoo closed Jan. 23 after only opening in June in the former Shark a-Go-Go space on Soi 15, a side lane with a long memory and a short leash.

The concept wore a K-Pop name but the operation was not Korean-owned, tied instead to the Better Group from Soi 6, the same crew behind La La Land, Wet Six, Cooters, Benders and Booty Call.

In the early days before Jisoo closed, the room hit fast, was busy and had estimated 60 women working as PR, models and coyotes, with “plenty of skin on display and almost as much silicone.”

Aimed at Cheap Charlies, not Koreans

Despite the Korean Black Pink theme, inexpensive beer became the most consistent talking point. Early customers kept coming back to the same detail: a large, very cold draft pour that felt close to a pint without being marketed as one, a rare moment of generosity on a strip that usually tightens the tap once the night gets late.

As the novelty wore off, foreign nightlife writers started describing the same friction point: Soi 15 is not what it was 10 years ago.

The Japanese-language PattayaLife.net, in a July 4 visit report, called Soi 15 a lane with lighter foot traffic because it sits off Walking Street proper, then described Jisoo’s barfine setup as “a bit complicated,” adding that “after midnight it gets cheaper.”

The same writer put the venue in a blunt local hierarchy: “Comparing new Geisha and Jisoo, Geisha wins. I think the number and quality of dancers is better at Geisha.”

A similar verdict showed up in Chinese-language nightlife coverage.

Thai Old Driver, writing in Chinese, described Jisoo as having “about 60 girls” and “varied styles,” but added, “overall quality is not as good as the ‘face-value’ shops on Walking Street.”

The post still recommended it as a casual stop, saying “draft beer isn’t expensive” and you can “go in, order a beer and sit.”

The lineup included a number dancers and waitresses who came to Jisoo after PenthouseX closed. They’re now looking for work again because, by January, the bigger story around Jisoo was not the theme or the staff. It was the exit sign.

Jisoo Closed After 7 Months

On paper, the company behind Jisoo was set up like a standard Pattaya hospitality vehicle. DataForThai.com’s business record lists Jisoo Pattaya (Thailand) Co., Ltd. as registered May 16 with 4 million baht in capital and a broad “food and beverage” business description, the kind of classification that covers everything from bars to restaurants and keeps paperwork clean.

This month’s Redlight Report predicted Jisoo would close, saying “the lights are on (for now)” while much of Soi 15 sat dark. Before Jisoo closed, a for-sale ad had gone online for a “still-operating go-go on a Walking Street side lane”. It didn’t take much to conclude that it was Jisoo.

The ad listed monthly rent at 100,000 baht and said key money was 2.5 million baht every three years with about 2.5 years left on the lease.

Before Jisoo closed, it had been on the market since before high season with the Soi 6 owners even offering it back to the Shark group for 10 million.

That the price was cut to 6 million shows the Better Group was more interested in getting than cashing in.

Lack of Marketing Contributed to Closure

That Jisoo closed illustrates how a number of mistakes and obstacles can turn a good idea into a bad result.

In addition to the challenging Soi 15 location and the on-target branding, Jisoo’s owners had never operated a Walking Street go-go. They learned quickly it’s a lot different and costlier than a Soi 6 brothel bar.

The Better Group also failed to market the bar properly. A Facebook page was set up in June and never had another update after June 18. After that, it left the social media duties to a mamasan who has since renamed to the page as she moves on to a new venture.

With Jisoo closed, Soi 15 has lost another much needed bar to bring that side soi back to life. If you think you can do better than Better, you can pony up 6 million baht and take your shot.
