Pickled Liver’s Nick, Vicky’s Secret’s John Throw Blowout Birthday Bash Dec. 6

Vicky's Secret Birthday Bash Dec. 6 for John and Nick

Two of Bangkokโ€™s best-known and most popular expats celebrate a double birthday Saturday at Vickyโ€™s Secret Soi Cowboy.

Vickyโ€™s bossman John Walker and Nick Wetzel, founder of the long-gone but much-beloved Pickled Liver pub will be toasting another year off the calendar at the Soi Cowboy go-go/bar/people-watching spot Dec. 6.

The โ€œBangkok old boysโ€ are putting on a free buffet and handing out shots and bubbles to everyone who comes by after 9 p.m. The theme is a masquerade party, so masks will hide any embarrassing behavior!

Vickyโ€™s No Longer a Secret

Vickyโ€™s Secret, which has a patio in front, โ€œnormalโ€ bar with sports on TV in the front and a small but spicy go-go bar behind the curtain in back, has become an instant sensation after officially opening a month ago.

Part of it is that Vickyโ€™s, from Day One, was stocked with young, slim and pretty go-go girls, many imported from Nana Plaza. But the expat connection canโ€™t be overlooked.

There are a lot of guys who want to go out to Cowboy just to hang with their mates, with some delicious eye candy for a view. The front bar provides that, with sound levels that make it easy to chat, but more naughty fun only a few steps away.

Then, of course, thereโ€™s the patio, which provides a great view of the PR girls on the Neon Alley, but also all the oddballs that stroll the soi.

Expat Connection

Vickyโ€™s is Walkerโ€™s first go-go he can call his own, although heโ€™s had his hand in a few others quietly. He also ran Bangkok Investments, which brokered the sale of go-go bars. He also started The Blue Boar restaurant.

Wetzel was the bossman at The Pickled Liver on Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 until selling it in 2018. The plan was for a new pub to open in that spot, but Covid killed that idea and the spot was sold again and Pizza One opened there.

He has spent the years since the Pickled Liver splitting his time between Thailand and the UK, but is here often enough to enjoy a large group of friends.

As such, Saturdayโ€™s party should be rocking with lots of familiar faces to those living in Bangkok. And there will be plenty of grog to create headaches the next day.
