Nana Plaza’s Thai New Year celebration starts early with the Spanky’s Songkran Sunday, offering frozen margaritas, tequila shot specials and – best of all – no water.
Officially titled “Spanky’s Sierra Songkran Sunday”, the April 12 Spanky’s Songkran party is sponsored by Sierra Tequila, which also backed February’s two-day Mexican Fiesta with their tasty frozen-margarita machine filled to the top with tasty mango margaritas served up for just 100 baht.
Spanky’s Songkran Only April 12
The middle-floor Nana Plaza go-go’s only opportunity for a Spanky’s Songkran is April 12, as – unlike every other go-go bar in town – closes April 13-15 as bossman Marc wants staff to enjoy the Thai New Year with family and friends. So it’s party Sunday night, then deal with the Spanky’s Songkran Sunday hangover (and water fights) Monday-Wednesday.
It will be back to party time on April 16.
Songkran at Nana Plaza
Actually, Songkran at Nana Plaza is nothing special. While outside on Soi 4 will be packed with water warriors soaked to the bone, there has been no water allowed inside the plaza since 2018. Once the roof went on, the water fights that ran for three days in the Nana courtyard stopped.
Red Dragon Club & Lounge is trying to at least bring some Songkran excitement to the plaza, with “Bubble Fest”, which will also run at Shark Soi Cowboy, April 13-15. There will be body painting and bubble shows, but, thankfully, no water-throwing.
Spanky’s Tequila Drink Specials
At the center of Spanky’s Songkran Sunday is a special Sierra Tequila menu created for the event, featuring a Frozen Tropical Margarita made with Sierra Blanco tequila and Sierra Tropical Chili, served with lime and Tajin.
Shot promotions also anchor the Spanky’s Songkran Sunday lineup, with buy-three-get-one deals on both Blanco and Tropical Chili tequila designed to encourage group ordering and quick rounds.
A recent poll on the Dave the Rave Twitter channel found that nearly 58% of respondents planned to either lock themselves in at home or flee the country during Songkran, so, if you’re like them, then Spanky’s Songkran party is your best chance to celebrate the Thai new year without worrying about getting soaked.
The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. and untll early into the 13th and the start of Songkran.
