Supernova Soi Cowboy, the neon alleyโs newest go-go bar, will eschew stadium seating and aim for a more-intimate atmosphere when it opens late this month.
Digital a-Go-Go got an exclusive sneak peek inside the former Kazy Kozy on the corner of Cowboy and Soi 23 Feb. 6, offering the first view of Supernova Soi Cowboyโs layout. What it reveals is that despite the big-boom name, Supernova Soi Cowboy will play as a small room, with only a single-row of sofa seating lining the walls and no upstairs bar.
A little Bad Beach, a bit of Orbit
Despite being owned by the same group as Crazy House next door, Supernova Soi Cowboy feels more like the groupโs other go-go, Bad Beach. Supernova Soi Cowboy features the same low stage as Bad Beach, although itโs a normal pill-shape, like that in the newly renovated Shark Club across the street. It is large enough to put about 15 ladies on stage.
Behind the stage is the bar, with the other three walls rimmed by the red sofa seats. There are no normal high bar stables. Instead, Supernova Soi Cowboy will have low coffee table-style tables. The combo is very much like the old Whiskey a-Go-Go in Nana Plaza, which also aimed for a lounge feel with low sofas and tables.
Unlike Whiskey, however, there are no plans for barstool tables lining the stage; at least at this point.
As noted earlier, Supernova Soi Cowboyโs exterior borrows cues from the Greco-Roman-styled Orbit in Nana Plaza, with faux marble columns, fake (but illuminated) arched windows and a brick faรงade. This week small lamps were added, changing the look to something more European in design.
The new lights will help add some ambience to the outside, as Supernova has installed a full rail bar, like Hot Lips a couple of doors down, offering a great perch for people-watching.
Supernova Soi Cowboy Cozy, Not Kozy
Kazy Kozy, which Supernova replaces, began life before Covid as a go-go bar before changing formats into a live music house. The original format was that, downstairs, the bar would be โKazyโ โ as in Crazy House, with plenty of skin and tourist shows โ and upstairs would be โKozyโ with more hands-on action.
In reality, the Kozy upstairs never really materialized. In Kazy Kozyโs seven-year history, the weeks the upstairs bar was open could be counted with fingers. Most of the problem was the bar could never attract enough ladies. Add in police problems and poor customers numbers and there was never a need to open the upstairs.
This go-round, the Crazy House Group isnโt even bothering with upstairs. It has not been renovated and there are no plans to use for anything other than storage. Instead of a glass floor window to upstairs, a mirror stretches the length of the ceiling above the stage.
Supernova 70% Complete
Supernovaโs bossman said Friday that he views construction as 70% complete, but still hopes to open the go-go this month. If it does, it will be in the last week of February. But with Macha Bucha Day set for March 3, ownership might wait until after the Buddhist holiday (which falls on a Tuesday).
Hoping History Doesnโt Repeat
The space now being redeveloped as Supernova Soi Cowboy has been one of the more unsettled corners of the strip in recent years, reflecting the pressures facing mid-size venues on Soi Cowboy after Covid.
Kazy Kozy closed after several years marked by inconsistent business and shifting formats. Despite multiple attempts to reposition itself, the venue struggled. By the time it shut down, Kazy Kozy had become emblematic of a broader problem on Soi Cowboy: bars that survived the pandemic but never fully recovered their pre-Covid rhythm.
The closure cleared the way for a full reset rather than another incremental rebrand. Supernovaโs arrival represents a deliberate attempt to start fresh, not only with a new name but with a different operating philosophy tailored to current conditions on the strip.
