With today’s Wan Lai in Pattaya, Thailand Songkran 2026 is in the books, and what a momentous Thai New Year it was, with the kingdom smashing attendance records from Soi Cowboy to Phuket.
Thailand Songkran some of the biggest crowds Bangkok has ever seen in Soi Cowboy, Patpong, Siam Square and Silom Road.
Wild Soi Cowboy
On Soi Cowboy, the Thailand Songkran water battle again took over the street from Asoke Montri Road to Soi 23. Patio bars opened from late morning through the afternoon, with Vicky’s Secret, Suzie Wong and Baccara the busiest spots for the water wars.
A record number of bars opened on Soi Cowboy this year, with Vicky’s, Bad Beach and Rainbow joining longtime veterans of the three-day water festival. Shark Go-Go Club opened at 10 a.m., a couple from noon to 1 p.m., most at 2 p.m. and Bad Beach at 3 p.m. Nearly all offered Thailand Songkran Happy Hour specials to keep folks liquored up and internally hydrated.
Tourists, expats, bargirls and bar staff all joined in the same water fight. Unlike Khao San Road or Silom, Soi Cowboy’s Thailand Songkran crowd spread across patios, outside rails and the middle of the street, with people constantly moving between bars rather than staying in one place.
Most of the action centered around Suzie Wong and Vicky’s Secret, with outside areas packed from around 2 p.m. until early evening. Shark again built its daytime party around a multi-night themed event series before bars returned to normal indoor operations after 7 p.m.
Thailand Songkran Smashes Records
Elsewhere in Bangkok, the numbers were even bigger.
More than 3.1 million people attended official Thailand Songkran sites across Bangkok over four days. Siam Square drew more than 1 million people, while Silom Road attracted more than 650,000 and IconSiam more than 600,000.
Attendance across Bangkok surged 93.4% year-on-year, with total Thailand Songkran crowds approaching 5 million people. Siam Square alone reportedly reached 1.5 million visitors, making it the city’s busiest Songkran site.
Patpong also saw a major comeback. The nightlife district, where Radio City the No. 1 Songkran party destination, became Bangkok’s most talked-about tourist hotspot during Thailand Songkran because of its mix of bars, markets, nightlife and easy access from Silom Road.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand projected 30.3 billion baht in tourist revenue nationwide for Thailand Songkran this year, up 6% from 2025.
Pattaya’s Madness Finally Ends
While Bangkok largely wound down after April 15, Pattaya kept going … and going … and going. It finally ended today (April 19).
Pattaya Beach was packed today for wan lai celebrations, with roads closing around the beach area as crowds surged for one last round of water throwing.
Traffic was gridlocked, beachfront areas full and packed crowds around Beach Road as Pattaya extended Songkran beyond the official holiday period.
Throughout the week, Pattaya’s nightlife districts stayed busy, especially Walking Street, Beach Road and Soi Buakhao.
Even with concerns about weaker spending, Pattaya still looked full for most of the week.
Phuket’s Songkran Party Hits New Level
Phuket also finished Songkran week with large crowds around Patong, Bangla Road and the island’s beach areas.
Songkran’s international popularity continues to grow because it combines traditional Thai New Year customs with nightlife, concerts, street parties and beach tourism.
Trump’s Iran Folly Takes Toll
But the week was not without problems thanks to Donald Trump’s misadventures in Iran.
Before the festival began, Reuters reported that Thailand Songkran spending could fall 3.7 percent to around 130 billion baht because of higher travel costs linked to rising fuel prices and the Iran war.
But by the time Pattaya’s Wan Lai celebrations ended today, Thailand Songkran 2026 had already established itself as one of the biggest and busiest Thai New Year festivals Thailand has ever seen.
