The Shamrock Irish Pub in Bang Chak serves the finest pint of Guinness in Bangkok.
At least that’s the conclusion reached by GuinnessThailand.com, the crowdsourced “Pints of Bangkok” website that tracks Guinness prices across the capital.
The Shamrock – located on Sukhumvit road a few steps from Exit 1 of the Banng Chak BTS station – currently tops the rankings with a pint priced at just ฿245, making it the cheapest Guinness currently recorded anywhere in Bangkok.
That puts the unassuming pub recently taken over by well-known expat Irishman John Walker ahead of heavyweights such as The Sportsman, Fishbone and even The British Club.
(While the latter also ranks among Bangkok’s cheapest Guinness destinations, membership requirements make comparisons difficult. )
For the average punter simply looking for the lowest-priced pint of Black Stuff in town, The Shamrock stands alone.
A Pint Worth Traveling to The Shamrock For
Located a few stops down the BTS than many people venture, The Shamrock is not the first place most Guinness drinkers would expect to find Bangkok’s cheapest pint.
Yet according to the latest figures from GuinnessThailand.com, The Shamrock’s ฿245 Guinness sits well below the citywide average price of ฿335.
That difference may not sound dramatic until you look at the other end of the rankings.
The most expensive Guinness currently tracked in Bangkok is served at The Deck Bangkok in Asoke for ฿491. The gap between the cheapest and most expensive pint in the city is therefore ฿246 — meaning one Guinness at The Deck costs almost exactly the same as two at The Shamrock.
Bangkok’s Guinness Prices Are All Over the Place
The biggest surprise from the GuinnessThailand.com data may be the sheer inconsistency of Guinness pricing across Bangkok.
As of the end of May, the site tracks 70 venues serving Guinness. The average price is ฿335. A shocking nine pubs charge more than ฿400.
The five most expensive pints currently listed are:
- The Deck Bangkok — ฿491
- Vesper — ฿490
- TAX — ฿480
- Black Cabin Bar — ฿456
- Good Trouble Bar — ฿447
At the opposite end, The Shamrock leads the rankings at ฿245, followed by Robin Hood and The British Club at ฿249 and The Sportsman and Fishbone at ฿250.
For Guinness fans, the difference is remarkable. A drinker ordering four pints at one of Bangkok’s most expensive venues could spend almost 1,000 baht more than someone drinking the same amount at The Shamrock.
The Website That Became Bangkok’s Guinness Watchdog
GuinnessThailand.com launched in late April as a side project by an Irish Guinness enthusiast frustrated by Bangkok’s wildly inconsistent pricing.
What began with around 35 venues has already grown to 70. The creator – who has remained anonymous, describing himself only as an Irishman – describes it as a simple consumer tool.
“After noticing some pretty wide differences in Guinness prices across Bangkok, I started tracking pubs, happy hour deals and pint prices to help the fine people of Bangkok find the best value Guinness around the city,” the website explains.
The project has no ratings, reviews or nightlife rankings. Instead, it focuses entirely on price.
Listings are sorted by cheapest pints, most expensive pours and best happy-hour deals, with users and pub owners encouraged to submit updates whenever prices change.
The creator jokes that some prices are collected “the old-fashioned way: me sitting at a bar with a creamy pint and quietly questioning my life choices after seeing the bill.”
Astounding Bangkok Guinness Facts
The numbers reveal just how strange Bangkok’s Guinness market has become.
- The cheapest pint in the city costs ฿245.
- The most expensive costs ฿491.
- The difference between them is ฿246.
- The average pint costs ฿335.
And while Guinness drinkers often argue endlessly over pouring quality, glassware and temperature, every venue is ultimately serving the same Irish stout.
For the Guinness purist, there is another detail worth remembering. According to Guinness guidelines, the famous creamy head should account for roughly 12% of the pint’s volume.
Whether Bangkok’s cheapest Guinness is also Bangkok’s best-poured Guinness remains a matter of debate.
But according to GuinnessThailand.com’s growing database, nobody is currently serving it cheaper than The Shamrock.
