Best Bang-For-Baht Breakfast

Bangkok & Pattaya Took Lae Dee

Foodland is a superb value for money supermarket chain. There are branches in both Bangkok and Pattaya that are open 24 hours. They stock a wide range of products at reasonable prices, and they even have a pharmacy section.

Inside each Foodland Supermarket there is a Took Lae Dee Restaurant. The literal translation of Took Lae Dee is “cheap and good” which is a very accurate description. You know the food is both cheap and good, when you see so many locals eating at these Thai style diners.

I still can’t believe that Bangkok is such a huge city and yet, there is a definite lack of 24 hour restaurants. Thankfully, we’ve got Took Lae Dee!

The American Breakfast must be the best bang-for-baht you can possibly get anywhere in Thailand. It costs just 79 baht for 2 Eggs, Ham or Sausage, Toast, Butter, Preserves, Orange or Pineapple Juice, plus Tea or Coffee. If you hit it at Happy Hour (05:30-09:00) the American Breakfast is only 62 baht.

In Bangkok, I prefer the Took Lae Dee branches on Sukhumvit Soi 16 and in Patpong Soi 2, because both restaurants have tables to sit comfortably. However, the Took Lae Dee Restaurant on Sukhumvit soi 5 gets very crowded and there are no tables. Also, service can be very slow compared to the other branches, so patience is definitely needed sometimes.

As an added bonus, drinking water is free with refills as well. This will be like paradise to the Cheap Charlie Clan!

The menu has a selection of Thai, Asian and Western dishes, including the tasty Chinese Roast Pork. The Chicken Fried Rice is delicious and as cheap as chips. Took Lae Dee really takes some beating and being open 24 hours, this gives Foodland a great advantage over competitors.

Daves Raves – If you don’t like waiting, walk inside the supermarket and do your shopping. By the time you get back your food will be ready. You can eat in, or take it home along with your shopping. Hey, that’s two jobs done in one!
