Kazy Kozy Soi Cowboy Closes, Will Try 2nd Time as Crazy Go-Go Bar

From go-go to music bar and back again, Kazy Kozy on Soi Cowboy closed this week for renovation and will return as a chrome pole palace.

The bar on the corner of Soi 23 – who old timers remember as The Old Dutch – was one of two music bars operated by the Crazy House group, with 5-Star being the other. But apparently there is a limit to how many music bars Soi Cowboy can support and Kazy Kozy staff said the bar has not been busy for a while with Country Road or Penny Black being the choice for quality music on Soi Cowboy.

Ownership said Tuesday that Kazy Kozy will be closed for about three months for a total refit. When it reopens, it again will be a go-go bar, the boss confirmed.

Kazy Kozy’s Go-Go Roots

Kazy Kozy opened in March 2019 with the idea that downstairs would be a “kazy” go-go with girls in bikinis and upstairs would be “kozy” and dark, with girls undressed as they are in Crazy House. That never really panned out.

A shortage of girls meant that the upstairs was rarely open during its three years as a go-go bar. So downstairs tried to be both “kazy” and “kozy”. There were many negative reviews.

“There were high hopes for the second bar from the Crazy House Group but expectations have not been met. The complaints are numerous,” Stickman Bangkok wrote three weeks after doors opened. “The design of the bar has not utilized the space well and it is smaller than it could be .”

There were also gripes about Crazy House’s standard double-lady-drink money grab and smoking being permitted.

The renovation, and changes in the group’s policies on smoking, hopefully will change that. Smoking in Crazy House or its Bad Beach go-go bar, for example, is not allowed downstairs in either venue. And double lady drinks are easily avoided by just telling the girl you’ll only buy one.

Shows & Showing

Before it’s opening, Kazy Kozy was much anticipated as a “Crazy House II” with its full-on style replicated. That never happened, nor, as it turns out, was intended. The opening and now success of Bad Beach proves that. Bad Beach now is what Kazy Kozy was supposed to be then. Ownership clearly hopes to recreate its Bad Beach success at the new Kazy Kozy.

Instead, what happened the original Kazy Kozy go-go bar was that it turned into a showbar for tourists, with plenty of girls in birthday suits between shows. Before it shut down at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, there were few customers and even fewer girls working there.

Music Bar Re-emerges

When Kazy Kozy finally reopened in 2022 after Covid, the go-go stage was gone and bands took the place of dancing damsels. Nightly live music had a new venue and, for a while, it did well. But as time wore on, and Penny Black took over the old Corner Bar, the Thai bands, playing a lot of Thai music, didn’t find enough of an audience to keep Kazy Kozy going.

Having succeeded with Bad Beach, ownership said they wanted to try again and make Kazy Kozy II better than before.
