That speed at which the French-run Pin-Up group sold Opium surprised many in Pattaya’s bar industry, but not the sale itself, given that the group’s managing partner has been stuck in Dubai, unable to return to Thailand, leaving minority partners on the ground to deal with slowing business and a go-go bar glut.
French Sold Opium to Turks
Now that the Pin-Up group sold Opium, the bar has been infused with fresh life and ideas. The new Turkish owners were still crossing the Ts and dotting the Is on the contract last week, but Troy, a Turkish American, has taken over as manager, imbuing the bar with a friendly and welcoming vibe, unlike the Pin-Up bars which are infamous for rogue security guards who doubled as hostesses.
Most of the staff have remained after Pin-Up sold Opium and the stage still boasts three teams of comely models and coyotes. The new owners are expected to weed out any bad apples left over from before Pin-Up sold Opium and bring in some fresh blood of their own.
Opium Cozy & Friendly
Of all the bars in the Pin-Up Group – the namesake go-go, XS and Chick and the sold Opium – the latter may have been the best in terms of customer experience.
Chick, now widened by 50%, is widely deemed to be too large, with some seating in the cavernous bar too far from the stage. Pin-Up, once said to have the most-attractive ladies in Pattaya, has fallen far far from its peak, say patrons and industry veterans alike. XS now wears the crown for the best ladies.
Opium, the smallest of the four, is far more intimate, with all seating close to the stage and more personable ladies. Under new management, security guards have been told to stay in their lane, leaving the hospitality work to proper hostesses.
If you’re so many who have left negative reviews about the Pin-Up group, it’s time to return to Opium, which has gotten a near-overnight upgrade.
