Pattaya Favorite LePub Sold; ‘Mr Egg’ Plans New Venture

LePub, the popular Pattaya Soi Diamond beer bar, has been sold told to an Australian new to Thailand, marking the end of an era for popular British owner Phil Ross, better known as “Mr. Egg”.

Ross announced the sale last week on his popular YouTube channel, revealing that the deal came about suddenly after a brief negotiation facilitated by local real estate agents. The young Australian buyer is setting up in Pattaya by buying two bars.

LePub Sale Came Out of Blue

According to Ross, the entire LePub sale process moved swiftly and without complication.

“The agent that sold my bar received a call from another agent who had a client searching for a bar near Walking Street within a certain price range,” Ross said. “After the agents spoke, we quickly met up, and everything came together very, very rapidly.”

Ross recalled vividly the moment the sale became official: “I was sitting on the sofa inside LePub on a Tuesday, chatting with an Australian customer, when my watch vibrated. It was a message notifying me the money from the sale had just arrived in my account. Eight and a half years of running the place, gone in a single text message.”

Mr. Egg Reflects on LePub Years

Reflecting on his nearly decade-long run, Ross expressed mixed emotions about the rapid conclusion to his tenure at LePub.

“I was quite upset when it happened,” he explained, acknowledging the deep emotional connection built through years of personal investment. Ross oversaw every detail of LePub, from maintaining cleanliness and managing daily operations to personally greeting customers.

Since its establishment, LePub became a favorite among Pattaya’s nightlife crowd, attracting both tourists and expatriates due to Ross’s approachable personality and the bar’s welcoming atmosphere.

Known affectionately as “Mr. Egg,” the bald Ross’s engaging presence also translated well online, making him a recognizable figure in Pattaya nightlife circles through his YouTube videos.

The bar’s future under new ownership remains uncertain. Ross described the buyer as “younger, more energetic, and probably more handsome than me,” humorously suggesting that changes might be on the horizon.

“He might take the pub in a new direction,” Ross speculated, adding the possibility that LePub could be renamed. Should that happen, Ross hinted he might retain the LePub brand for future ventures.

LePub’s Aussie Buyer

The Aussie buyer was on hand for Ross’ final night at LePub March 30 and said he also has bought another beer bar in central Pattaya.

He’s relatively new to Pattaya and, as so often has been the case in Thailand, he met the girl of her dreams and is buying her the bars with an eye toward setting her up financially.

What’s Next for Mr. Egg?

Ross’s departure doesn’t mark the end of his involvement in Pattaya’s nightlife industry. He has already made an offer on another bar, signaling his intent to continue operating in Pattaya’s competitive nightlife market. Ross promised further announcements on his new project through his YouTube channel, where followers will eventually learn the location, theme, and concept of his new business. “I’m excited about starting fresh in a new location,” Ross explained. “It’s a huge cliché, but I want people to join me on my journey. I’ll reveal the new bar when the time is right, including whether it’s similar to LePub or something entirely different.”
