Walking Street in Pattaya is visibly receiving more pedestrian traffic and the popular bars are getting busier. However, a number of bar owners are complaining about the clientele. Larger numbers of Arabs, Indians, Africans and Eastern Europeans are entering the go-go bars and not ordering drinks. Bar trade is also picking up in the Soi Nana area in Bangkok, with the numbers of Westerners, Japanese, Indians and Arabs definitely increasing. I have visited Soi Cowboy this past fortnight and it was busy on Thursday and it was packed on Friday night. The most popular go-go bars in Soi Cowboy were doing a roaring trade on Friday night – Tilac, Shark, Baccara, Long Gun, Raw Hide and Shebas were all busy. Foreigners and Thais alike seem to be taking advantage of this dry spell.

WEATHER WATCH – The pitter-patter of rainfall disturbs me from taping the keyboard of my Acer laptop. Shortly afterwards the rain subsides and I ask myself, ‘Was it worth the effort?’ As a veteran Bangkok resident, I’m used to it hammering down with silvery bullets, which sometimes lasts for hours. September and October are (usually speaking), the months that see the heaviest rainfall on the Thai calendar. The monsoon winds and rains can be very sudden and very intense. When it does rain hard and fast, this seems to be a good excuse for people to stay in for the night. This applies to both Thais and foreigners alike. I don’t know how you feel, but the rain rarely stops me from going out. Knowing that Thailand has so much more to offer than Farangland, you won’t see me singing the rainy season blues. After all, there is a simple, but effective invention called the umbrella!
September and October are often notoriously bad months during the peak of the rainy season (akaart fun in Thai). Thailand and in particular Bangkok, has received torrential rain on a daily basis. However, a dry spell has emerged and it is helping tourism and the nightlife scene.
