Halloween parties will play out across Bangkok and Pattaya this week with go-go bars getting in the spirit more than they have in a decade.
From 2014-2019, Halloween parties had become less and less common in Bangkok’s red light areas. While Soi Cowboy always has drawn tourists in costume and many bars had PR staff dressed up, the lack of enthusiasm for All Hallows Eve was especially notable inside Nana Plaza, especially after 2016.
That appears to have reversed itself. There are organized, “more than just a poster” Halloween parties in many spots in both Cowboy and Nana, plus Pattaya and outside the red light areas, as well. A roundup:
Red Dragon Club & Lounge – Halloween also is the bar’s anniversary, so the party will be the biggest of all of them. Red Dragon turns 2 this week, so there will be plenty of scary getups, but also lots of toasts to a bar that has become one of the most popular in the city.
Mandarin Club & Shark Club Soi Cowboy – Red Dragon’s sister bars and doing Halloween up big with free food, lucky draws and “Goosebumps” and ghost shows.
Tycoon aGoGo – The top-floor Nana Plaza bar is dressing up lavishly for the occasion and is giving everyone “Spooky Shots” with their first drink purchase. There’s also a costume contest for the girls with cash prizes.
Billboard & Butterflies – Halloween always brings out wild “sexy scary” costumes at these 2 Nana Plaza juggernauts. The reason? BIG cash prizes in the girls’ costume contest.
Angelwitch – Halloween is this bar’s national holiday. After all, a skeleton hangs from the ceiling year-round. This year all house pours will be 100 baht all night long.
The Old English Bangkok – The Thonglor pub is celebrating Halloween both Oct. 30 & 31, with Lee Shamrock live on Wednesday and free scary shots and 199-baht “horror burgers” on the 31st.
Smalls – The Sathorn live music house is eschewing the dressup for a Halloween Music Festival with 3 acts lined up: The Basic Jazz Trio, Mint Passakorn & DJ Freddy Funk. Details here.
Pattaya – Walking Street will the epicenter for Halloween fun and both Shark & Fahrenheit are welcoming all ghouls and goblins. Bartenders are whipping up special cocktails for the occasion.
Halloween Parties a Sign of Holiday Resurgence

The prepandemic lull in Halloween celebrations were a stark contrast to the frivolity of 2012-2014.
Back then, Halloween was very popular Nana Plaza, even more than Soi Cowboy.
Angelwtich was the place to go and management spent a lot of time and money decorating the bar, bringing in makeup artists and more.
Even then-manager Dave the Rave was sometimes done up in makeup!
Those who attended the Angelwitch Halloween parties said that, one year, the makeup was so well done that he was genuinely spooked by some of the girls.
Some bars prepared dance routines on the ground floor area with literally dozens of girls dressed up, sort of like they had stepped out of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video.
The railings on the balcony around the entire plaza would be packed as girls and customers came out of bars to see what all the fuss was about and watch the routine, which was performed multiple times over the course of a night.
Sadly, Halloween celebrations hit their peak during 2012-2014 and declined steadily since. So this year’s batch of Halloween parties is a nice sign of recovery.
